Holidays always give us the opportunity to eat things we wouldn’t normally eat. As a ‘natural’ momma, it also gives me one more opportunity to tell my kids no. And, as much as I enjoy that, it’s nice when I don’t have to. :)
I know there are plenty of desserts you can make for the 4th of July, but I’m more looking to share some ideas on healthy foods that are red, white and blue… cause that’s just fun!
One of the easiest July 4th desserts is yogurt with blueberries and strawberries.

Not the most creative thing, I know… but for kids that don’t get sweets very often, it’s very exciting! We used vanilla yogurt (organic). YUM!
Another idea which uses the exact same ingredients is popsicles made out of yogurt, strawberries, and blueberries. So easy to do. Just put yogurt in the popsicle mold, leaving about 1/4 of the mold empty at the top. Then put in some cut up strawberries and blueberries. Put them in the freezer and the kids will be able to enjoy them after a few hours!
Fruit kabobs are next on the list. There are many fruits you can use for this, but I was thinking, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, bananas, apples, and pineapple (I know pineapple isn’t white, but it’s close and oh so yummy! You can use wooden skewers for this one, or go for more kid sized portions and use toothpicks.
Okay, I know the list wasn’t very long, but I hope this gets your creative juices flowing! Remember it doesn’t have to be crazy elaborate… sometimes simple is best!
Please let me know if you have any good ideas for healthy 4th of July treats that incorporate red, white, and blue!
