Red White and Blue food thumb Red, White, and Blue Foods for the 4th!

I know some of you are gearing up for 4th of July celebrations and what to make for your family or for whatever party you may be going to, so I thought I would help you out with a list of naturally occurring red, white, and blue foods!

The red foods are definitely the easiest list to think of and usually the yummiest too.  The white foods will add some great nutrition to whatever you are making.  For the blue foods, you have to get creative, and maybe even visit a farmer’s market or specialty store to get some of the items (like purple asparagus).

I urge you to use these lists instead of using food dyes.  It will be much healthier and your friends and family will be impressed with your creativity!

White

  1. Onions
  2. Potatoes
  3. White Asparagus
  4. Apples (and a little red too, if you leave the skin on a red apple!)
  5. Garlic
  6. Yogurt
  7. White Cheese
  8. Bananas
  9. Cauliflower
  10. White Beans
  11. Chicken
  12. White Bell Peppers

Red

  1. Watermelon
  2. Raspberries
  3. Red Potatoes
  4. Strawberries
  5. Tomatoes
  6. Red Bell Peppers
  7. Kidney Beans
  8. Cherries
  9. Red Onions
  10. Red wine
  11. Red grapes (Could also be used for a ‘blue’ food depending  on the shade)
  12. Cranberries

Blue (Blue, is by far the hardest list, you will have to settle for purple for most of them… some say there are no true ‘blue’ foods… even blueberries are kind of purple)

  1. Blueberries
  2. Blue Potatoes
  3. Black Berries (kind of blue…)
  4. Blue corn chips
  5. Again, Red/Purple grapes
  6. Eggplant
  7. Purple Bell Peppers
  8. Purple Asparagus
  9. Purple Cabbage
  10. Bleu Cheese (I know it’s a stretch, but I really wanted to get to 10 and couldn’t think of anything else!)

Great list! I hate when people act like the only way to make festive food is to douse it in food coloring!

How fun! I love your lists! Maybe when my kids are older we can create only red white and blue foods on the 4th!

Good list to have. I’m not being very creative this year- I made rice krispie treats and put red, white and blue sprinkles in the shape of a flag on it. lol
