Welcome to the January 2013 Natural Living Blog Carnival: Green Confessions. This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Natural Living Blog Carnival hosted by Happy Mothering and The Pistachio Project through the Green Moms Network. This month our members have written posts about areas of their life where they aren’t as “green” as they may want to be.
Okay, so I’m not Catholic and I’ve never been in a confessional booth (if that’s even what it’s called). However, if I were Catholic, and I needed to confess my sins against green living… well, let’s just say I would have some things to say to the priest on the other side of the booth.
I like you guys a lot, but I’m not telling you all my secrets!!!
I am willing to divulge a few of my green ‘sins’, though.
First one… I buy the greens (spinach, mixed greens, kale, etc.) that are already pre-washed in those plastic containers, ready to eat. The greens I buy are organic, but I am way too lazy to buy the stuff that’s not already washed and ready to go. We definitely eat more greens this way. Of course, we recycle the containers! Now, during the summer, I do buy lettuce from the farmers market and I have to wash it off and cut it or tear it or however it’s being prepared. I hate it though. I only do it because I know it’s a little bit better for our earth.
Next up… The toys in our house are NOT green. We do have a few ‘green’ toys, but for the most part, our kids play room looks like it came straight out of Toys R Us. Sometimes I feel bad about this, but honestly, mostly I don’t feel bad. They’re only kids once and they love their toys! Some of our favorite games to play together as a family are Sorry!, Uno Attack, and Trouble. Those are not considered green, but I wouldn’t trade them for 15 green toys, because we have so much family fun with them.
Okay, here’s my last one (that I’m going to share with you)… I use regular old nasty deodorant. In high school, I tried to find a natural deodorant, but alas, apparently I am too smelly for anything natural. The one I use doesn’t have aluminum in it, that’s where I draw the line. It has plenty of other unnatural stuff in it though. I have tried lots of different natural deodorants over the years and NONE of them work for me. It’s sad, but I don’t know what else to do.
Okay… there you have it. Hope you still love me!
