A+ TutorSoft, Inc. is next up on the TOS Crew’s review list! The crew members were given a year’s subscription to A+ Interactive Math, either the online homeschool edition or a grade level specific curriculum CD. In our house, we had the opportunity to try out the A+ Interactive Math online homeschool edition.
I have really enjoyed this program. It includes recommended lesson plans, a curriculum guide, a printable workbook, multimedia lessons, interactive questions and answers, a solutions guide, exams and exam solutions, formula reference sheets, instant online grading and real-time feedback. Not to mention a free placement test! That’s a lot!!
Here’s a little snapshot of what you will see when you log in for your lesson:
I don’t know if you can see on the left there, but it is the table of contents. When you first open the program, it will have all those folders unopened. In the picture above, Fractions and Basic Operations with Fractions is opened. In each folder there are a number of different lessons for that topic.
I loved the way the program was laid out. Everything you need is on that top tab bar on the page. The first tab is your lessons that you can see in the table of contents. Then you have a suggested lesson plan to follow. The next two tabs include printables and ebooks that you can print out so your child can do worksheets the old fashioned way with paper and pencil. I think that’s important, so I appreciate that it’s included! Next you will find online worksheets and exams. This will allow your child to do the worksheets online and be graded on their work. The program keeps track of your child’s progress and you can access it anytime.
Benjamin has really enjoyed this program. He will start out by watching the “lecture” for the lesson and then he does the practice problems on the computer. I also printed off worksheets for him to do, because I like for my kids to have to use pencil and paper. It’s really the perfect combination for us. He likes doing work on the computer and I like for him to have pencil to paper and this program allows for both!
The only real complaint we both have is that the part lessons don’t take up the whole width and height of the computer screen. I don’t know if there is a way to fix this and I just am not tech savvy enough to figure it out. Really, though, it’s not that big of a deal. A lot of homeschool programs we have used online have had the same kind of window view.
All in all, I’m excited we got to review this. It will now be Benjamin’s new math program!
