Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd is a company that has technology for speech and language difficulties that is intended to be used daily. The technology I am referring to is their bone conduction headset.
The list of things that can be improved using this headset is quite lengthy…
- brain stimulation
- auditory processing disorder
- reading difficulties
- improve speech
- improve attention
- auditory feedback loop
- bone conduction headset
- sensory integration
The headset has loops that loop around your ear, with the bone conduction technology sitting in front of your ear. Then the microphone goes in front of your mouth. So, nothing goes in your ear. You hear your own voice through the bone conduction. This allows you to not only hear your voice, but to feel it too, through the vibration in your bones.
I was pretty interested in my kids using Forbrain. My youngest two kids both have reading issues. My youngest is just having trouble grasping learning how to read. My middle child can read very well, but sometimes doesn’t remember what he just read. I think his mind gets distracted while he reads, which hinders his reading comprehension.
While my oldest doesn’t necessarily have problems with anything on the list above, ANYONE could use Forbrain for brain stimulation and maybe even improved attention.
So, with all that said, all 3 of my kids used the headset every school day during the week.
Usually, they would wear the headset while they were memorization work. Whatever they were memorizing, they would just say out loud. This was a nice way of doing it for them, because it didn’t give them “extra” work to do during their school day. They had to do the memorization work anyway and they just wore the headset while they did it.
At first, I thought they would all complain about it. You know, the normal kid stuff, “Why do I have to wear it?”, “I don’t want to”. etc… But I got none of that!
My youngest thought it was cool the way it made her voice sound. They other two did it with no complaints whatsoever. I asked my oldest her opinion about it and she said she couldn’t necessarily see that it was doing anything, but that she didn’t mind doing it. She is my child that really didn’t have anything specific to work on, though.
As far as my other 2 kids, I’m not sure if it helped them or not. It’s one of those products, for us, that we couldn’t really see what it did. Maybe it helped stimulate their brain or improve attention, but I’m not sure.
I will say, my youngest has seemed to be making more progress in her reading lately. We really haven’t done anything differently, except for her using Forbrain daily. I can only assume Forbrain has helped her in that way!
I do think that it has helped my youngest with her speech. When she is wearing the headset and says a word incorrectly, she can better hear that she has said it incorrectly. This allows her to self correct.
The headset is intended to be used for 6-10 weeks at a time. We have used it for that long, so I think we will take the suggested break and then do another 6 weeks. I’m interested to see what other improvements will be made!
I highly suggest you go to the Forbrain website and look around. There is so much information regarding how it works and why it works! The FAQ page should be especially helpful as well.
