When we are teaching our kids, a few of the first things we strive to teach them is Perfect Reading, Beautiful Handwriting, and arithmetic. Am I right?
Further, how wonderful would it be if they could learn them both at the same time, all while also learning to read? Oh, and did I mention your child (or you!) will be learning the beautiful art of calligraphy!?
You can achieve all of that when you get Perfect Reading, Beautiful Handwriting from Everyday Education, LLC.
Does your child already know how to read or you already love your reading program? That’s okay too, because this book can be used solely as a handwriting curriculum. This is how we used it.
The main person using this book was my 8 year old daughter. She is still in the “write every letter huge” phase. Seriously, you can read it from across the room! That is, if it were huge AND legible… which it’s not.
Enter Perfect Reading & Beautiful Handwriting!
I have had my daughter do handwriting practice in the past, usually in conjunction with her reading lessons or in the form of copywork.
We have had such a hard time making strides in her reading that I just wasn’t as concerned about her writing at the moment. One battle at a time…
I have finally found a reading program that I like that she is having huge success with, so I chose to use this book solely as a penmanship curriculum.
It doesn’t take long to do the lesson each day. As you can probably imagine, your child is essentially just practicing a new letter each day at the beginning.
As she progresses in the program, she graduates into writing words and sentences. And, of course, if you are using it as a reading program, then at the beginning your child is learning sounds and then progresses into learning words and sentences.
Because the curriculum uses a calligraphy approach to writing, the way your child will learn to write will learn more like italics than the typical writing you normally see.
The Curriculum and How to Use it
The books came to me as a downloadable ebook. This is great if you have multiple children (or adults that want better handwriting) that will be using it.
I printed ours off and put it in a binder. Each time my daughter did a lesson, we would take that page out of the binder so she wouldn’t have to fight with the binder rings while she was writing. That worked well for us.
You can also get it as a perfect bound book if you prefer that.
There are 60 phonics based lessons in the book. Like I said before, it progresses from single letters to words and sentences. When you start the words and letters, it begins to tell you how to join them. It’s not quite joined like it would be in cursive you are used to seeing, but if you have seen calligraphy, then you know what I mean. (I wanted to show you pictures, but my computer is being challenging and not allowing me to move my pictures from my phone to my computer. Sorry about that.)
I am loving this book!
In fact, I think I am going to start using it! I had full intentions of using it over the last couple of months while my daughter was using it, but my schedule was too crazy to include it in my day.
I will DEFINITELY be having my son start using it. His handwriting is atrocious! Sorry… but it is. Oh… And my husband. ;)
I do recommend you check it out. I’m always envious of those with pretty handwriting and with this book, I get to have it too!
