Using this study for just three, 30 minute lessons per week, for four weeks, we will have learned all about four different presidents and their wives. And, as the name suggests, we go to cook the things they liked!

What will you learn?
In this micro-study, you learn about George and Martha Washington, John and Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James and Dolley Madison. You learn a bit about each of their personalities and then you get to cook one of their favorite dishes!
Each of the four weeks, you learn about each president and his wife. You learn facts like their political party, religion, occupation, the years they were president, and the dates of their birth and death.
And then you will also learn about things he did during his presidency, his and his wife’s personality, and of course, what they liked to eat!
Yes, this is called Cooking Up History with the Founding Presidents, so you get to EAT!
What will you be cooking up?
Mostly you will be cooking yummy desserts. The thing that is neat about the unit study for me, is that they teach you how to cook the items in the same way that they were cooked in that president’s time period. Of course, there were no microwaves. And there were also no electric ice cream machines, so they had to make ice cream in a different way.
I don’t want to give away everything that you will cook, because I don’t want to spoil the surprise! I will say, you will start with a cherry pie and end with ice cream! You really can’t go wrong with those!
My kids enjoyed learning all the little tid-bits of information at the presidents and their wives. And, of course, they loved the cooking! Especially my youngest. She always enjoys helping me cook!
If you are interested in trying out one of Homeschool Legacy’s Micro-studies, right now is the perfect time to get their Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims study. You may not be able to finish it before Thanksgiving, but it will still be a great time to do it. That being said, you could finish it if you do multiple things each day.
